Zacatecas
is currently accepting submissions for our Spring/Summer 2003 edition. We're
particularly interested in short fiction, although we do publish poetry and
audio/visual works as well.
Our staff
is looking for work with a contemporary feel. Down here in the Mexican desert,
we feel very little connection to the John Updikes of the world and their
east coast, prep-school prose. We want stories that convey a broad sense of
today's America-- fiction that looks at downtown hipsters, punk rock waitresses,
the popularity of Mexican gangster polka in L.A. or conspiracy theories in
Montana. But above all we're looking for work that's well-written and genuine.
Fiction
or poetry should be sent in the body of an e-mail along with a short (approx.
40 words) bio. Send no more than one story or 3-5 poems at a time. For audio
or visual works, send a web address where the work can be viewed or downloaded.
Send submissions to the address below:
Zacatecas
acquires first time publication rights in online and CD-ROM format upon acceptance
and confirmation, and the right to maintain the work online in our archives.
After publication, rights revert back to the author. We are currently unable
to pay, but do offer authors a CD-ROM of the issue in which their works appear.
